The famous murano glass beads making originated in 9th century in the
venetian island of Murano. Since then the practise of murano
glass making continued not only in greater
Italy but the art quickly spread to other parts of the world. Today
Murano still has a number of factories as well as a few individual arts
studios where the tradition of artistic
craftsmanship still contiues and flourishes. The technique of making
murano beads, lampwork & millefiori beads is quiet similar and
delpoy the murrine technique.
Firstly coloured liquid glass is layered and stretched into log rods
called canes. The rod are set to cool off and then sliced through and
the layered pattern becomes visible.
Prsented here are a few choice murano pendants, representing different
shapes, exotic designs and a wonderfull array of balanced and
contrasting colours.
